EPOXY 101 Volume 1 SHAPING with Greg Loehr is a 97 minute instructional DVD that teaches the viewer how to shape EPS Foam into a finished foil ready to glass.
Why Epoxy? Epoxy resin and EPS foam have been around for years but these materials haven’t been widely used because of a scarcity of information of just how easy it is to make surfboards with this new technology. Epoxy resins and hardeners have vastly improved in the last several years making them much easier to use. Boards made with EPS Foam and Epoxy resin tend to be lighter, stronger, flex more and be better for the environment and board maker than traditional foam and resin. Also, due to recent shortages of blanks, it makes even more sense to make boards with EPS foam and Epoxy resin.
EPOXY Shaping 101 is instructed by the Epoxy Master Greg Loehr who was at the for front of developing Epoxy resin. Greg, a pro surfer in the 80′s started his own surfboard company and shaped thousands of boards in his factory based in Florida. During this time He saw the need for better materials. Now two decades later, Greg produces and markets Epoxy resin world wide with his company Resin Research
This broadcast quality program starts with an explanation of how EPS foam is made and what tools are needed to work with it. Greg shows how to cut custom blanks out of a block of foam which minimizes shaping time. This program teaches all the tricks to shape EPS foam, including concaves and V bottoms.

After the blank is shaped Greg than covers the mysterious yet simple process of sealing the foam to insure it’s lightness, before laminating.

About the Instructor
Greg Loehr has 30 years plus experience which includes being a pro surfer, owning a surfboard company and producing Epoxy Resin at his company Resin Research.
About the Director
Carl Ackerman has 23 plus years of broadcast television experience as a cameraman/editor/producer and director. Starting in 1987 as the director and host of Crossfire Videos a surfing show on San Diego Public Access Channels. In 1995 Carl shot two films for Chris Bystrom, Gravity Sucks and Blazing Longboards. He has since released 3 programs with John Carper, 2 with Greg Loehr and also the life story of Doc Ball. Carl currently is approaching 10 years as a commercial producer for a NBC affiliate.
