The
World Championship Kinetic Sculpture Race is a 38 mile course stretching
from Arcata to Ferndale, California. It involves treacherous sand
dunes, an open water bay crossing, and a steep slippery-slimey mud
slope. The Race vehicles are called Kintetic Sculptures because they
are entirely people-powered contraptions built for all terrains. Over
100, one to ten man sculptures compete in this great race which began
in 1969. Carl Ackerman produced and directed these films with one
airing on PBS and clips from others shown Internationally on Beyond
2000 and ESPN 2.
